BLUE REFLECTION Quartet PC and Steam Deck Settings
Fix muddy defaults, pick portable presets, and understand Steam Deck Verified quirks after the July 29 PC launch.
Why PC settings matter more in Quartet
BLUE REFLECTION Quartet on Steam (app 3825390) is a far better PC release than the 2017 original—Steam Cloud, modern graphics menus, and Steam Deck Verified status all land here. Launch-week testing still shows one trap: texture quality and filtering often default too low on handhelds, so first boot looks muddy until you open options. Use this page with platform comparison, controls, and known issues before a seventy-hour portable run.
Quartet is out now—Steam unlocked July 29, 2026; consoles followed July 30. As of August 2, 2026, no official patch has rewritten PC presets, so manual tweaks remain the day-one fix.
Steam Deck Verified — what Valve guarantees
Valve marked Quartet Steam Deck Verified before launch. In practice that means:
- Controller glyphs and touch controls work without inventing a community layout
- Cutscenes play (a major upgrade over legacy BLUE REFLECTION on Deck)
- Steam Cloud saves sync across Deck and desktop
- You may still need the Quick Access Menu to switch the active controller if an external pad is connected—Valve’s Verified note calls this out
Verified is not a promise of 60fps. Expect mid-30s to high-50s depending on title module, TDP, and resolution. For living-room 60fps+, prefer a desktop GPU or PS5.
First five minutes on Steam Deck
- Install from Steam and let shaders compile on first launch of each module.
- Open BLUE REFLECTION or Second Light graphics options from inside that title—do not trust the shared launcher alone.
- Raise Texture Quality and Filtering at least one notch above the default Low presets. RPG Site and early Deck owners report defaults that make uniforms and faces look soft on the 800p panel.
- Set resolution to 1280×800 (native) or 1280×720 if you need headroom in busy school hubs.
- Cap framerate in SteamOS Performance overlay (40 or 45 is a common comfort target) to reduce fan noise during long bond events.
Repeat texture checks when you first open SUN and RAY—each module can keep its own preset.
Suggested Deck graphics profile (Second Light / SUN)
These values are a practical starting point for OLED and LCD Decks after launch testing—not an official Gust preset:
| Setting | Suggested |
|---|---|
| Resolution | 1280×720 or native 1280×800 |
| Window | Borderless |
| Texture quality | Standard or higher (not Low) |
| Filtering | Raise above default Low |
| Shadows | Low–Standard |
| Effects | Standard |
| Anti-aliasing | Off or Low |
| Depth of field | Off for combat clarity |
| Motion blur | On (toggle still missing in Quartet Second Light—see known issues) |
If battery life matters more than foliage, drop shadows and effects before textures—faces stay readable longer when textures stay Standard.
Desktop PC and ultrawide notes
Desktop Steam builds can exceed 60fps where GPU headroom allows. Prefer an SSD for the ~55GB install. Ultrawide users should verify aspect handling in the first school hallway; Quartet’s modern port is cleaner than the 2017 launcher, but confirm UI safe areas after changing resolution.
Keyboard defaults and remapping live on controls. When switching between titles from the Quartet hub, some players report the client briefly restarts—normal for this compilation’s multi-executable layout, not a failed install.
Other Windows handhelds — ROG Ally and beyond
Post-launch portable testing ranks ROG Ally (Z1 Extreme) ahead of Switch 2 for image quality when Turbo mode is available, though sustained 60fps is still rare in Second Light hubs. Expect high-30s to 40s in heavier scenes even on Turbo. Smaller Windows handhelds (for example AYN Thor class devices) may need 720p + Low presets just to stay above 20fps—treat those as experimental until CPU patches arrive.
Buying advice shorthand:
- Best TV/monitor: Desktop Steam, then PS5
- Best Windows handheld: ROG Ally-class hardware
- Best Valve handheld: Steam Deck with raised textures
- Avoid expecting Switch 2 parity on Deck—Deck can look sharper at 720p than Switch 2’s 30fps docked image in some scenes

Linux and Proton caveats
Quartet is Windows-first. Community Proton threads warn that FMV cutscenes in older Gust/KOEI TECMO titles sometimes auto-skip on Proton/GE-Proton. Deck Verified targets SteamOS paths Valve tested; pure desktop Linux remains unsupported. If FMVs fail, verify the official Windows build or watch archived cutscenes—do not assume a day-one Linux fix.
Storage, Cloud, and module hopping
Budget ~55GB free before preload. Enable Steam Cloud and create a manual save before uninstalling any module. Progress does not import from 2017/2021 standalone SKUs—see what is not included. Nintendo players comparing to Deck should remember Switch and Switch 2 never share saves either (Switch vs Switch 2).

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is BLUE REFLECTION Quartet Steam Deck Verified?
Yes. Valve listed it as Steam Deck Verified before the July 2026 launch. Cutscenes, Cloud saves, and controller support work; you may still need Quick Access to switch external controllers.
Why do textures look bad on Steam Deck at first?
Texture quality and filtering often default too low. Raise both in each module’s graphics menu—do not leave Low presets for long sessions.
Can Quartet hit 60fps on Steam Deck?
Usually no. Deck Verified means playable controls and Cloud, not a 60fps lock. Desktop GPUs or PS5 are better for locked 60.
Is ROG Ally better than Switch 2 for Quartet?
Launch-week testing favors ROG Ally for portable image quality versus Switch 2’s 30fps cap, though Ally still dips into the 30–40fps range in heavy scenes.
Does Proton play all FMVs correctly?
Not guaranteed. Older Gust titles often auto-skip FMVs on Proton. Prefer SteamOS Verified paths or native Windows if cutscenes matter.
How much storage does the Steam version need?
Plan about 55GB. Confirm free SSD space before downloading all four modules plus gallery assets.
